TURMERIC – May Help Prevent

Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
Yes! An ancient spice may also enliven your brain!

“The Spice of Life”, a common expression for anything “extra nice”. But one of the greatest spices has been, for thousands of years, TURMERIC – originally from South East Asia, and introduced by Marco Polo into Europe. But, not only for its delicious flavor (used as a base for Curry etc.), TURMERIC was highly popular for its power to mask odor and taste of rancid meat, while inhibiting further deterioration a great blessing before refrigeration!

It is important to mention that, in Rural India, aged people (over 70) who eat large amounts of curry (basic Turmeric) apparently have absolute lowest incidence of Alzheimer’s disease in the world!

The co-relation is most suggestive, and there are scientific reasons to conclude that TURMERIC may protect us from Oxidative Degradation. It is certainly able to protect foodstuffs from oxidative degeneration, so why not do the same for our bodies, which are composed solely or former foodstuffs?

CURCUMIN and related compounds in TURMERIC are called CURCUMINOIDS, of a larger range known as polyphenols, many having major health benefits in humans.

The “MULTI-ANTI” Spice: TURMEIRC has following qualities:

ANTI-INFLAMATORIES AGAISNT ALZHEIMER’S
The most prevalent kind of inflammation is arthritis, and TURMERIC is a most effective remedy of this in both its forms: osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Inflammation occurs in many parts of the body, one being the brain, where Alzheimer’s disease is particular manifest, through formation of “amyloid” a kind of plaque, made up of proteins and polysaccharides resulting from tissue degeneration. Chronic inflammation is generally treated by users of NSAIDS i.e. non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin and ibuprofen.
But the incidence of severe irritation and/or ulceration of the stomach, plus occasional liver or kidney damage results from chronic use of “NSAIDS”.

Consequently, researchers have sought other remedies for the prevention of Alzheimer’s since research has shown that this disease is associated with major oxidative damage caused by free radicals, and studies show us that antioxidants can protect neurons (brain cells) from the damage caused by “amyloids”.

As a result, researchers at UCLA sought for a powerful antioxidant of the right kind, and encountered CURCUMIM which is considerably more potent than Vitamin E, and is well known to protect the brain from liquid peroxidation, and will scavenge nitric oxide-based free radicals, nontoxic and is free of any side effects!
Further research conducted at UCLA concluded that CURCUMIN might well prevent Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s when taken regularly, and in good time.

So, in short, one of the most delicious spices (I always use when cooking) can be hailed both as splendid item to use in your daily diet, plus in capsules as recommended by your Health Food Advisor to combat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s as a preventive.

Cancer researchers are turning to CURCUMIN to develop agents, which induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) as potent anti-cancer drugs.

All of above described capacities of TURMERIC are characteristic of agent as mentioned in an article published in the Journal “Nutrition & Cancer” (U.S.A.).

Dr. John Heinerman, in his famous book “Nature’s Super Medicines”, dedicates a whole chapter to this splendid “Wonder Spice” and its fantastic uses in medication and in cooking, covering its history since 1500 B.C., and applications in modern health foods, plus an explanation of usage in combating Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s today.
Prevention is better than care, and whilst effective cure of certain ailments is not yet possible, then we recommend prevention, by all means!
